Let’s talk about the glue, cardboard, and plastic portal to the beyond! The talking board, the spirit board, the witch board or as most have come to know it, the legendary Ouija board. I mean, say what you will about ghosts, but I’ve yet to see Hasbro slapped with a lawsuit for swallowing up a couple kids in their grandma’s attic under a full moon.
But seriously… Ouija boards have an interesting history. From their commercial birth as a parlor game to their spooky reputation in modern horror, they’ve always carried a bit of mystery and controversy. Personally? I see them as a spiritual tool, not inherently good or evil… just a conduit. Like any tool, its purpose depends entirely on the intention of the user.
If you’re pulling it out to spook your skittish little brother… chances are, it’ll do just that. (And hey, who doesn’t love a good jump scare?) But if you’re sitting down with sincere energy to connect with something unseen, be it through questions, focus, and intention, then I consider it in the same realm as dowsing rods, EVP recorders, or pendulums. If you believe in the possibility, and you get a response, then maybe something’s happening.
That said… here’s my cautionary note:
If you are using it to communicate with “something,” remember, it’s basically a paranormal chat room. You really don’t know who, or what is typing on the other side of the screen. Just because it responds doesn’t mean it’s who it says it is.
So, what do you think?
Harmless toy? Dangerous gateway to the seventh layer of Hell? Cool piece of occult history? Total nonsense?
Drop your thoughts below or hit me up on socials. I’d love to know what you think about Ouija boards.
Stay spooky,
